The main aim of this project is to fight successful against HIV epidemic in close connection with the Belizean Government, with the National AIDS Commission and with Non Government Organisations to control the epidemic and especially to improve the prevention. In Belize we have found a small clear country with stable political conditions and a certain infrastructure with it's eight district hospitals. The rare data let only suppose the serious epidemiological status of a concentrated or even generalized HIV epidemic Belize has gotten to. The government is willing to face the problem but on account of the limited resources the spread of HIV cannot be fought successfully without foreign help. In our point of view Belize has the best conditions to put up a model project in fighting the HIV epidemic in developing countries in close cooperation with the government. Throughout our visits to Belize within the last two years in order to investigate the situation and to get in contact with the inhabitants we visited several institutions and people in charge. During our stay in August 2000 we contacted the appropriate government officials and received a very positive and convenient response for a hopeful success of the project. This was the beginning of our activities especially on the field of voluntary counselling and testing in connection with education. These means to be only a small part of all necessary tasks for fighting against the increasingly spread of HIV and all parallel problems, which the government has to solve.
